From a few rough boards to a 24 fret, 25-inch scale awesome electric guitar. I just finished this one and I’m calling it Model LRC1-2. This one took a month and a half to complete. I have a second one underway and that’s why you see the start of a second neck in one of the photos. It plays and sounds sweet!
Model LRC1-2
The entire guitar body was constructed from this rough cut Linden (Basswood) board pictured above. Next to it you can see the completed unfinished body.
The above photo shows the lamination of the 3 piece neck in this model. The two outer layers are figured hard maple and the middle darker layer is black walnut. Manufacturing of a neck in this manner creates a very strong neck that is practically impossible to warp or distort after being built. Note the nice figure in the maple layers!
Here is a side view of two laminated 3 piece necks. The figuring of the maple is clearly visible in this photo.
After the double action truss rod is installed in the neck, the Rosewood fingerboard is glued to the top of the neck and fret slots are sawed with a very thin kerf saw. The board is given a 12-inch radius and then the frets installed.
The above photo shows that a bone blank has been cut to the proper length and is about to be fashioned to the same 12-inch radius as the fingerboard and frets. Slots will then be cut into the blank to hold the strings at the proper spacing and height above the frets.
Pictured here is the front of the headstock and the finished bone nut. You will notice that the head-stock has been designed so that the strings are in a nearly straight-pull in line with the strings. The “L” logo (for Lawrence Guitars) is inlaid Mother Of Pearl. Truss rod adjustment is easily accessed from the front of the head-stock. The strings are D’Addario EXL110 Nickel Wound Electric Strings -.010 -.046 Regular Light
Next we see the tuning machines from the back of the headstock. These are high-quality Grover 18:1 ratio tuners in a chrome finish to match the rest of the hardware on the body of the guitar.
Here we see that the Tune-O-Matic tail-piece has been installed, the next step will be to install the bridge. You will also note here as well that all electronic cavities have been coated with black conductive shielding to block electromagnetic fields. (noise reduction)
The photos above show the front and back of Model LRC1-2. This model is equipped with 2 Golden Age Humbucker pickups, a 3-way Switchcraft selector switch, Gotoh Tune-O-Matic bridge, and tailpiece. It has two volume controls and two tone controls. The potentiometers are CTS 500 k . You can also see here that the fret markers are diamond-shaped mother of pearl inlaid. The fingerboard is of Rosewood.
